The John Godber Company will be staging a new production of classic Yorkshire novel Wuthering Heights this November at The East Riding Theatre in Beverley, as well as two nights at Wakefield Theatre Royal.

The production, which is written and directed by BAFTA winner Jane Thornton, the recent writer of the international hit show OCHO, which sold out at the East Riding Theatre, will also be designed Lucy Weller, who has previously worked at the National Theatre and the Royal Court, as Jane brings her energetic style of physical theatre to the stage with a script that was described as ‘wonderful’ by Dr. Juliet Barker, the world expert on the Brontes.

The production is not only a celebration on the novel, but is also a scheme by the John Godber Company to give work to graduating actors. Graduates from drama schools can often struggle to get a first job, having no prior experience outside of University, and so, for this production the John Godber Company has given all of the roles to 2017 graduates of northern drama schools the Liverpool Institute of the Performing Arts (LIPA), and the Academy of Live and Recorded Arts (ALRA North), in an effort to give these young actors a “leg up” into the industry.

The cast is made up of LIPA graduate Duncan Riches (Edgar/Linton), and ALRA graduates Lauren Sturgess (Cathy), Sorcha Macaffrey (Isabella/Nelly), Lamin Touray (Heathcliff), and Alex Bailey (Hindley/Haerton) and runs from the 3rd November until the 18th, including a Saturday matinee on the 11th, and a specially priced schools’ matinee on Wednesday 8th.

Daring and imaginative, part horror, part romance, part social document, great writing meets great theatre in a great venue. Wuthering Heights brings swagger to the Brontes, whilst remaining true to the novel like never before.
