Newland Avenue will reopen temporarily on Monday 2 October for two weeks to allow full access to Hull Fair for , emergency services, and motorists.

Phase one has been completed ahead of schedule, allowing the road to be reopened. This will give unrestricted access to businesses along Newland Avenue, and allow the scheduled bus services to travel along the street during this period.

Councillor Alan Clark, portfolio holder for highways and transport, said:

“We are now two weeks into the scheduled on Newland Avenue, and I am pleased to report that due to better than expected progress, we have revised the original programme of works to help minimise disruption.

“By inserting a break in the works Newland Avenue will now be closed for a period of three weeks, open as normal for two weeks during Hull Fair, and then closed for a further two weeks.

“Although the end date has been put back by a week, the amount of time on site has reduced from six weeks to five weeks.”

The revised dates for the phases of the works are as follows:

• Phase two: 18-22 September, Newland Avenue between Lambert Street and Edgecumbe Street will be closed, 07.30 – 18:00
• Phase three: 25-29 September, Newland Avenue between Melbourne Street and Raglan Street will be closed, 07.30 – 18:00
• Monday 2 – Sunday 15 October, Newland Avenue temporarily reopens to all vehicles
• Phase four: 16–20 October, Newland Avenue between Sidmouth Street and Walgrave Street will be closed, 07.30 – 18:00
• Phase five: 23-27 October, overnight closures Newland Avenue/ Road junction

The signed diversion route for this phase is Queens Road, Beverley Road, Inglemire Lane and Cranbrook Avenue for northbound vehicles and vice versa.

Pedestrians can access the entire street throughout the duration of temporary closures. The road is fully open on weekends and after 18:00 every night.

Councillor Clark continued:

“Businesses will be open as usual for the duration of these works, and we apologise in advance for any inconvenience incurred. It is essential these works are carried out.”

Advance warning signs are on display for motorists and access will be maintained at all times for emergency service vehicles, however scheduled bus services will be diverted during the hours of the closures.
