Tony Coyle plans to saddle two horses in the second staging of a race run in memory of his partner, Jaimie Kerr, at Beverley on Monday evening (July 24).
Jaimie, who was just 38 when she died two years ago, was also Coyle’s assistant at Low Row Stables in Malton, North Yorkshire.
Coyle is braced for another emotional night at Beverley and hopes to be represented by Maureb and Thatcherite in the Jaimie Kerr Memorial Handicap over five furlongs.
The North Yorkshire trainer said: “It’s personally going to be tough for me, but it’s a lovely way to remember Jaime.
“Jaimie’s mum, dad and sister will all be there, which will be really nice, and there’s also a good group from Malton coming down.
“We’ll try and keep it going every year and it would be absolutely fantastic if we could win the race in Jaimie’s memory.”
Maureb finished third in the race 12 months ago and returns to Beverley in great form, having won so well over six furlongs at Carlisle on July 13.
Nine-year-old Thatcherite has won twice over course and distance and was last seen finishing strongly to take fifth place in an apprentices’ handicap at Beverley on June 27.
Coyle added: “We’ve not really set the two horses up for the race – I’d love to have had five runners in it – but they are both in good form and should run well.
“Maureb was unlucky not to win the race last year but won well at Carlisle the other day and looks fairly treated in the weights, having gone up 3lb.
“She’s a lovely mare who is probably still well handicapped. Whether she’s an out-and-out five-furlong horse is the one big question, though.
“Thatcherite finished off his race really nicely at Beverley last time and enjoys running at the track.
“This will be a step up for him, but he’s in grand order at home and everything has been great since his last run.
“The horses are flying at home, so hopefully we can see them both run to form at Beverley.”
Gates open for Carnival Racenight – featuring samba dancers, carnival floats and live music from the New York Brass Band – at 4pm, with the first of seven races due off at 5.55pm.
Beverley’s fixture is also the third leg of the 10th annual Go Racing in Yorkshire Summer Festival which celebrates all that is best about Flat racing in the white rose county.
The 2017 Summer Festival starts at Ripon on Saturday and ends at Pontefract on Sunday, July 30.
