Drivers Thanked For Their Help To Ease Congestion Around Beverley

Drivers who took part in a roadside survey in Beverley last month have been thanked for helping towards a scheme aimed at easing congestion around the town.

Almost 7,000 motorists took part in the survey organised by East Riding of Yorkshire Council, which took place on various roads around Beverley in June.

Dave Waudby, head of infrastructure and facilities at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said:

“I want to thank the thousands of drivers who took part in our traffic survey for their patience and understanding.

“It may have been a slight inconvenience to them at the time, but the information they gave us was vital to our plans to ease congestion on one of the busiest roads in East Yorkshire.

“Their contributions will hopefully benefit the journeys of thousands of other drivers in the future should we be successful in obtaining funding.”

Drivers were asked at random to pull over and answer six simple questions including where they were travelling from and where they were travelling to.

That information, together with data from traffic counts, will be used to help map traffic flows around the town with the aim of improving conditions at a well known bottleneck.

The council is looking to make improvements to the Jocks Lodge interchange on the A164 Beverley to Willerby road as well as to the A164 itself, to ease congestion and improve the reliability of journey times.

Plans are in the very early stages but the results of the survey will help the council put together a computerised traffic model for the site and eventually a bid for grant funding from the Department of Transport.

The scheme will only go ahead if the council can secure the funding. The surveys were conducted over six days last month by contractor Nationwide Data Collection (NDC) on behalf of the council.
