Greatfield in Hull will take centre stage this month with a string of fantastic exhibitions and events celebrating the Hull estate’s 60th birthday.

Greatfield’s month in the spotlight begins this week with Creative Aspirations – an exciting exhibition of art and craft work designed and created by the students of Aspire Academy.

The showcase will include a mixture of work by 14-16 year olds demonstrating their skills in textiles, craft and fine art.

The exhibition, at the G60 gallery, St Hilda’s, Annandale Road, Greatfield Estate, runs until 2 August.

The gallery is fully accessible and open on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday 10am – 4pm.

Creative Aspirations is just one of a number of events taking part in Greatfield this month as part of Greatfield 60 Years On, a Hull UK City of Culture 2017 project supported by its Creative Communities Programme.

On 7th July students from Stockwell Primary Academy will present the Beginnings family portraits to the Pickering family.

The event will take place at Stockwell Primary Academy, Hemswell Avenue, and Greatfield Estate on Friday 7 July at 2pm.

The event is not open to the public so please contact the primary school if you would like to attend.

Stockwell Primary Academy and Oldfleet Primary School have both been working with Hull Carnival Arts to produce special carnivals that will be unveiled to families, carers and staff later this month.

Then on Saturday 15th July there will be a fantastic street party hosted by GRIN (Greatfield Residents Improving their Neighbourhood) at St Stephen’s Neighbour Centre in Annandale Road.

The street party will include carnival arts, crafts, a family disco, Greatfield Community Choir, traditional games, water bombs and a barbeque.

There will also be party food for the first 100 .

The event will take place from 11am – 3pm and will begin with a carnival procession starting at St Hilda’s Church in Annandale Road.

The procession will go through Greatfield to St Stephen’s Neighbour Centre in Annandale Road.

“The programme is doing great work delivering events and projects to all parts of the city ensuring that Hull 2017 is reaching everyone.”
