It’s almost time for ArtWaves to make a return to with a vibrant programme of art on Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 May.

The festival’s open exhibition has seen record numbers of entries from aspiring artists across the region and beyond in response to the theme ‘Culture’. Selected pieces have been chosen by the festival panel to create the exhibition within the Gallery at Bridlington Spa.

The official judging line up for the weekend has also been confirmed; a group of five individuals who will select the overall winner and runner up based on a combination of artistic quality and interpretation of the them.

The line-up includes; national artist Charles Evans, returning to ArtWaves after his appearance in the initial year, Vista Arts Director Rose Horspool, Art Curator Alison Brice, BBC Humberside’s Phil White and Cllr. Richard Burton.

The open exhibition, which has seen double the amount of entries from last year will be on display from Tuesday 9 May until the festival close on Sunday 14 May. Members of the public can vote for their favourite piece during this time with the audience choice and judges winners being revealed on the Sunday.

Lauren Frost, Festival Director said, ‘We are extremely impressed with the response we have received from the open exhibition this year, an incredibly vast array of artworks interpreting the theme of Culture in completely different ways. I can’t wait to see all the pieces in place, it is one thing to look at the artworks online but when you see them in person it’s a completely different experience”.
