The Hornsea & District Hospital War Memorial Challenge Cup, more popularly known as the Tanton Cup, after P.C. Tanton Esq who donated the trophy, is one of the oldest football cup competitions in the East Riding, and this will be its 94th anniversary year.

It is competed for by local football clubs from North Holderness and still remains a popular competition among local players and spectators. Hornsea Town are the current cup holders.

The new President for the competition is Dave (Dixie) Dean. Many thanks go the retiring President Dave Brocklebank, who along with committee members Stuart Kemp, Phil Ashcroft and Ian McLane, have kept this grand old competition going.

It had historically been run in aid of the Hornsea Cottage Hospital. The funds from the competition going towards buying daily papers for the patients, and occasionally extras such as a TV for the Day Room. Unfortunately the hospital ward is currently closed.

At this season’s AGM the clubs voted to again support the  so we’re trying to again raise as much as we can for this worthy Yorkshire based charity.
