NHS (CCG) is pleased to announce that following a rigorous procurement process Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust (YAS) has been awarded a new five-year contract to continue running non-emergency medical transport services (previously referred to as patient transport service) across the East Riding of Yorkshire.

The new contract expected to start on 1 July 2017 will see YAS continue to support eligible local residents to access their routine health appointments, including patients requiring renal dialysis, chemotherapy , and those needing transport following discharge from hospital.

YAS was awarded the contract primarily on quality elements included in their bid, scoring the highest of all the bidders. Quality accounted for 70 per cent in the evaluation with cost a secondary, though still important consideration, accounting for 30 per cent of the final score.

YAS demonstrated innovation with a new approach to communicating transport arrival times with patients, and a strengthening of their processes to support patients’ timely discharge from hospital.

They were also able to show case in their bid new ways of monitoring and maintaining their vehicle fleet to ensure patients are transported safely and comfortably.

Alex Seale, Director of Commissioning and Transformation, East Riding of Yorkshire CCG said:

“We are delighted to announce the contract has been awarded to YAS which has a proven record of providing non-emergency medical transport services locally.”

“In responding to the tender YAS offered a number of new and innovative ways of improving and supporting patients’ journeys to and from hospitals.”

“We look forward to working closely with them over the next three months to put the new contract in place and renew our relationship for the next five years.”

Chris Dexter, Managing Director of the Patient Transport Service at Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust said:

“We are delighted to have secured the contract in the East Riding and it is a fantastic boost for the Trust, our staff and the community of the East Riding for it to remain within the NHS.”

“I’m proud of the service we provide and the dedication of our staff to deliver the highest standards of patient care which remained highly visible throughout the unsettling period of the bid process.”

“We are looking forward to developing the non-emergency medical transport service further over the next five years in partnership with NHS East Riding of Yorkshire CCG.”
