Hornsea South Promenade Plans Secure Coast Communities Funding

East Riding of Yorkshire Council has welcomed the Department for Communities and Local Government’s (DCLG) announcement of £3.77 million of Coast Communities Funding towards plans for the redevelopment of Hornsea South Promenade.

The plans were developed alongside the Hornsea Area Regeneration Partnership and the existing users of the site, including the commercial fishermen, Hornsea Inshore Rescue and the Hornsea Sea Angling Club, and received planning permission in February 2016.

As well as securing the future of the fishing industry in Hornsea, the proposals include improving the facilities available for leisure by providing additional berths for leisure craft, a safer environment for users and visitors, a café, a small retail space and an education room.

Development of the plans was funded by the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund (EMFF) through the Holderness Coast Fisheries Local Action Group (FLAG).

Councillor Jane Evison, cabinet portfolio holder for economic investment and tourism at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said:

“Today’s announcement by the DCLG is excellent news for the town of Hornsea and demonstrates this council’s commitment to regenerating our coastal communities for the benefit of both residents and visitors.

“The council has an excellent track record of attracting funding, based on its reputation for delivering projects on time and on budget, and it is pleasing that this scheme was selected by the DCLG for funding and can now be brought forward.

“When complete, this scheme will strengthen Hornsea’s reputation as a must-visit tourist destination and also secure the long-term future of the town’s fishing industry.”

A programme of works for the scheme, which is also seeking funding from the EMFF to deliver the fisheries elements, is now being finalised.
