Beverley Under 14s had a convincing 29-12 win away at Malton on Sunday, having beaten the Malton team 69-0 at home earlier in the season they knew this would be a very different game, Malton would be stronger and the referee was likely to favour the home team and the pre match assumptions proved to be correct.

That said so long as Beverley played structured rugby and were disciplined in response to decisions they would come through and win the game.

From the kick off Malton struggled to hold their visitors and within a few minutes a typical Harrison Petrie run breaking a number of tackles enabled him to score the first try of the day.

Malton rallied but could not break through the Beverley defence, long clearance kicks allowed Harry Gunn at full back collected and carried the ball excellently back into support, Sam Acaster distributed well at stand off and Tom Barnard was a constant threat in the back line, Nathan Cullen returning from another injury had a another solid performance.

The Beverley forwards had to work hard in the break downs and this was made a more difficult task when Petrie was sin-binned, but they held firm, strong attacking runs by and Josh Dillon constantly made ground, it would not be too long though before the next try would come, a typically snakey run from Barnard allowed him to evade the Malton defence and score.

With Petrie returning to field the dominance continued, the back row of Toby Ashworth, Ben Walker and continued to be lively around the park, and good solid scrumaging from Alex Crockett and Oliver Lazenby allowed Adam Skeates to distribute well.

A further try can when Barnard again made ground and popped the ball out of the tackle to Acaster who scored under the posts, Barnard converted.

Malton kicked off the second half, and with the ball going straight to Ghio, the second row produced the try of the day, a rampaging run from within the Beverley half he powered through tackle after tackle and out paced the Malton back line to score an excellent try under the posts, Barnard converted.

Beverley made a couple of changes, Cameron Lawley came on for Ashworth and Jasper Law slotted into scrum half with Skeates out to the wing and Ben Ashley offering to switch sides and play for Malton to even the numbers due to an injury.

For most of the half the ref consistently penalised the Beverley team for a variety of infringements, allowing the Malton team to score two tries before Beverley wrapped up victory when a number of Beverley players including Oliver Jenner made ground allowing Cullen to finish off the match with a well taken try.

Beverley will be pleased with completing the double over Malton this season having never beaten them previously, showing that the team has improved significantly over the full season.

Parents Player of the week went to Jasper Ghio and Coaches to Harry Gunn.

Final Score : Malton 12 – 29
