An East Yorkshire college is preparing to welcome more visitors than ever before to its annual springtime spectacle.

Bishop Burton College, near Beverley, is opening its doors to the public on Mother’s Day for its popular Lambing Sunday event.

The event, which is held from 11am to 3pm, traditionally attracts around 7,000 visitors and, with sunshine forecast on the day, this year it is expected to be busier than ever.

OBE, Chief Executive and Principal of Bishop Burton College said; “I’m always so pleased to be able to welcome the wider general public to the College for our annual Lambing Sunday event.

“It also marks the start of spring and is always a wonderful day out. I’m sure this year will be just the same and we are expecting more people than ever before.”

Along with being given the chance to hold and pet a newborn lamb, the event includes a wide range of family friendly activities, including animal feeding experiences, pony petting and the chance to ‘hug a bug’ and ‘snuggle a snake’.

There are also a variety of dining packages available on the day, including traditional roast dinners, pre-ordered picnic baskets and light bites.

Dogs, other than assistance dogs, are not permitted and pregnant women are advised not to enter the lambing shed.

Entrance costs £7 for adults, £5 for under 16s and £20 for a family of four. Under threes go free. There is a £5 charge to park on the campus but free buses and park and ride are available.
