Planning permission for the redevelopment of the Beverley Arms Hotel has been finally been granted, news that was welcomed by local Cllr .

Their application to modernise and transform The Beverley Arms into venue the town can be proud of was finally awarded following a lengthy delay.

Plans for the new look hotel were unveiled in August though since then the new owners, have faced a tricky time getting the planning application through.

Commenting on the approval; of the application, Cllr Healy said;

“I am delighted and relieved that planning permission has finally been granted for the redevelopment of the Beverley Arms to proceed.

Planning Finally Approved For The Beverley Arms Hotel“I have been working with residents living in the surrounding historic streets since last Autumn, to make sure that their concerns about heavy movements in the area were listened to.”

“That’s why the original restriction on heavy traffic movements was made, and that provided the time and the opportunity for Thwaites to engage extensively with residents to explain their plans.”

“They did this by having proper communications, which included them knocking on doors and delivering leaflets to set out clearly what they wanted to achieve, and the residents are now on board with the limited number of heavy vehicle movements which have been agreed.”

It was disappointing that a further delay was caused last month by the Chairman of the Eastern Area Planning Committee, who is also a local resident, intervening to block officers recommendations that the work should be able to start.”

“This was a purely political intervention, and it hasn’t gone down well with local , who wanted to see the interests of the town put first with no further delays to the process.”

“Hopefully we can now put all this behind us and look forward to Thwaites restoring the hotel to its original Georgian splendour, and providing Beverley with an iconic establishment which will have a hugely positive impact on the local economy, and a building which we can all be proud of.”
