An NHS trust has won a contract to provide GP services at a surgery in Hull.

Humber NHS Foundation Trust will begin running primary care services at Northpoint GP practice, located within , from 1 April.

The Northpoint surgery will become the fifth operated by the Trust, complementing its two practices in Cottingham and others in and Bridlington.

The Trust also provides mental health and community services to more than 650,000 people in Hull, East Riding and Whitby.

Julia Harrison-Mizon, Humber’s Operational Lead for Primary Care, said: “We’re delighted commissioners have put their trust in us to provide primary care services at Northpoint GP practice.

“It’s wonderful news for patients and staff and demonstrates once again the Trust’s expertise in this field.

“We are now finalising our preparations before the contract begins in a month’s time and are looking forward to meeting the team.

“The Trust is committed to working with commissioners to provide excellent services to every Northpoint patient.”

Until now, the surgery’s primary care services have been provided by private sector provider Virgin Care.

However, when the contract came up for renewal, Humber convinced NHS Hull Clinical Commissioning Group and NHS England it was best placed to run the services.

The Trust already runs the Hallgate and Chestnuts surgeries in Cottingham, Wold House in Market Weighton, and Field House in Bridlington.

All of these contracts have been secured since April last year, but Humber has worked with an award-winning GP practice in for far longer.

The expertise it has gained in this time has helped the Trust secure the latest contract and fuelled its ambition to win more.

Ms Harrison-Mizon said: “The Trust is keen to expand its primary care portfolio by persuading commissioners that we should be their provider of choice.

“With multi-service community provision so vital to building a sustainable future for the NHS, it makes sense for Humber to do everything it can to develop in this area.”
