Trust Builds Research Reputation By Staging Conference Involving UK Health Experts

An NHS trust is to enhance its growing reputation as a centre of clinical research by holding a conference involving some of the leading experts in UK healthcare research.

Humber NHS Foundation Trust, which provides mental health, community and GP services in , East Riding and Whitby, will stage the free event in May.

Entitled ‘Developing a City of Research 2017, a reference to Hull’s designation as the current UK Capital of Culture, the conference is open to Trust staff, commissioners, NHS partners, GPs, social services teams, academics, charities, media and the public.

Allan House, Professor of Liaison Psychiatry at the University of Leeds, and Barry Wright, Professor of Child Psychiatry at the , will be among the star speakers.

Cathryn Hart, Humber’s Assistant Director of Research and Development, said: “We want to showcase the wide range of local, national and international research we’re involved in, particularly our new areas of work, and our potential for future collaborations.

“Crucially, we’re also keen to highlight the benefits of our research for patients and carers, and our determination to encourage our fellow healthcare professionals to involve patients in research whenever they can.”

The conference will run from 9am until 4pm on Wednesday, 17 May, 2017 – a date which coincides with International Clinical Trials Day, the National Institute for Health Research’s ‘OK to ask’ campaign and National Dementia Awareness Week.

Other speakers at the event, to be staged at the Mercure Hull Grange Park Hotel, in Willerby, will include Una MacLeod, Professor of Primary Care Medicine and Dean of Hull York Medical School, and Julie Jomeen, Professor of Midwifery at the University of Hull.

They will share the stage with Wendy Mitchell, Humber’s Patient Research Ambassador, who is living with dementia, Esme Moniz-Cook, Professor of Dementia Care Research at the University of Hull, and Dr Emma Wolverson, one of the Trust’s clinical psychologists.

Dr Tom Phillips, Humber’s Deputy Director of Nursing, and Trish Bailey, the Trust’s Clinical Care Director, will also address delegates.

The conference is eligible for continuing professional development points and certificates for portfolios will be available. Refreshments and lunch will also be provided.
