Dear Yorkshire, Can I Tempt You With An Abseil?

Feeling the January blues? Why not give yourself something to look forward to by signing up to a daring abseil down one of the tallest buildings in the North on Sunday 21st May to raise money for the British Red Cross!

The Red Cross is looking for brave people from across Yorkshire to don their finest fancy dress and make their way down the side of a towering student accommodation building in the centre of Leeds to raise money to help people in crisis.

Starting at a whopping 269ft (or 82m for those who think in metric), this challenge isn’t for the faint of heart. The panoramic views across beautiful Yorkshire from the top, however, the sound of your friends and family cheering your name, and the sense of relief when your feet hit solid ground make this an opportunity not to be missed.

There’ll be a prize on offer for the best costume, so participants are encouraged to be as creative as possible. If nothing else, a photo of you halfway down a building dressed as Winne the Pooh would make a great profile picture for your social media. Other prizes will include best fundraiser, and university with the most sign-ups, so students should encourage their friends to get involved too.

Helen Whale, Senior Community Fundraiser for the British Red Cross in Yorkshire said,

“The Leeds Abseil is such a fantastic event to be a part of. The atmosphere, as people build up the courage to take the plunge, is electric and utterly contagious.

It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity to see this fantastic city from an alternative perspective. If you’re umm-ing and aah-ing, my advice would be to just go for it! It’s a decision you won’t regret. On top of all that, the money you raise will make a real difference to people whose lives have been devastated by things like hospitalisation, house fires, flooding, natural disasters, conflict and more’

The sponsorship money raised will provide vital support for people whose lives have been affected by crisis and disaster – both right here in Yorkshire and overseas.

The event is open to anyone aged 16 and over, and abseiling experience is by no means necessary. You’ll be trained up on the day by a team of highly experienced professionals who will ensure your safety throughout, so you can lean back, relax and enjoy.

Registration to the event is now open and it costs just £10 to sign up. The Red Cross team of friendly fundraisers will be there every step of the way to help you reach your target with ease.
