Under 14s travelled to Grimsby this weekend, missing a number of players who were attending Yorkshire Trials, thereby giving good opportunities to other squad members.

The game started well for Beverley, with them dictating the play, the forwards carried and rucked the ball strongly, Harry Hesleton work hard and Captain Ben Wilkinson was a constant menace around the park.

Beverley’s first try came when slick handling from and allowed Olly Jenner to outpace the defence and score in the corner.

With further pressure and strong running, Sam Acaster dictated the game well and made good decisions at Stand Off, Harry Gunn made breaks and defended well at Full Back, but dominant forward play allowed a short pass to Alex Crockett to cut through the Grimsby defence to score under the posts, converted by Alex Nuttall.

Grimsby fought hard and managed to sore a try before Nathan Cullen out paced to score in the corner. Grimsby hit back again well and scored again just before half time.

The second half was enthralling, Beverley worked hard in attack but strong tackling from the home side prevented Beverley from scoring further.

A late try though from Grimsby equalled the score line and 17-17 draw was the result.

A little disappointing, but Beverley need to make sure that they make the correct decisions moving into the next couple of weeks, maintain composure and discipline to return to the solid and dangerous plays that they have become use to.

Coaches player of the week went to the ever outstanding Ben Wilkinson.
