The Stage4Beverley Winter music festival will be presenting some of the cream of young UK talent in its February event.

Headlining their “Rising Stars” concert on Saturday 18th February, will be two time BBC Folk Award winners Greg Russell and Ciaran Algar, one of the most sought after young acts on the English Folk Scene.

Having picked up the BBC Radio 2 Young Folk award in January 2013, Russell and Algar toured the country with a schedule which saw them play venues and festivals such as Cambridge Folk Festival and Fairport’s Cropredy Convention as well as appearing live on Mark Radcliffe’s BBC Radio 2 Folk Show.

In 2014 they also won the Horizon Award for best breakthrough act at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards.

The duo come from musical households and both began to develop their musical skills long before joining forces. Algar, originally a member of TRI became All Ireland Champion, and All Britain Champion on numerous occasions before the age of 16 and Russell had begun a career as a solo musician supporting acts such as Karine Polwart and Lau, amongst others.

Also appearing will be Elliott Morris who has a formidable reputation as one of the hardest-working and most sought-after young artists on the acoustic scene.

The singer-songwriter, featured in Acoustic magazine as ‘The Next Big Thing’, taps the strings and beats the guitar’s body to create an intricate spectacle, together with an original and unique sound integral to his songs.

Elliott’s original compositions marry intricate guitar lines with heartfelt, honest vocals and clever wordplay, combining elements of folk, roots, jazz and country. Embracing the traditional and the contemporary – this is folk music for the 21st century.

His versatile blend of folk, pop and rock has complemented a range of major artists he has supported including Frank Turner, Seth Lakeman, Lau, Big Country, and The Three Degrees, and revered folk veterans Martin Carthy and Dave Swarbrick.

Representing the local music scene will be Fiona Lee from Howden, who performed at a preview concert for the festival at the last February.

Lee, a seventeen year old emerging singer-songwriter has a voice which belies her years. Her songs tell tales of teenage life with both innocent simplicity and an impressively mature observation.

Her debut single “Rome” was released in August 2016. Alan Raw: BBC Introducing on Radio

Humberside said “We’re so impressed with ‘Rome’, we’ve already booked Fiona Lee in for a session. And it’s her first upload. But it’s that good- we just had to!”

Such a wealth of talent in just one concert makes for a must visit event. A perfect way to relax on a Winter’s Saturday afternoon.
