Beverley Whitestar U16s suffered a narrow defeat as they were beaten by East Riding Rangers 4-3 at Longcroft School missing the chance to leapfrog their opponents in the table.

A big game for the Whitestar they came very close to overturning Rangers who reside just one place above them in the Hull Boys Sunday Football League.

Commenting after the game, Whitestar’s skipper Alfred Timmons said;

“When were 3 -1 we absolutely feel we should have won the match, we were on top and were pushing for more but a streak of bad luck got the best of us.”

“I felt today we were very unfortunate not to get anything from this game as we were playing at our best. It was simply an excellent performance from everyone.”

“We played excellently. Our passing was accurate and effective and that persisted throughout the course of the game.”

“As a side we were planning on getting more of a cushion when we were 3-1 up, but we were trying to keep a defensive mindset but as I said before, bad luck is what it came down to.”

Whitestar went behind in the game though quickly not only got back on terms but went 2-1 up thanks to goals from Alex Wright and Owen Marwood.

Wright showed his class as he latched onto a through ball from Alex Vidal-Edwards and calmly rounded the keeper to level the match. Parity was restored thanks to a strike from outside box Marwood gave Whitestar a slender advantage.

Whitestar’s talisman Wright completed his brace with what skipper Timmons described as ‘superb strike’ and it looked as though the points were safe.

Rangers however got back into the game and when they were awarded a controversial penalty the visitors levelled the match from the resulting spot kick.

Worse was to come for Whitestar as Rangers scored their fourth and what proved to be the winning goal with little time remaining.

Next week Whitestar take on Westella and Willerby. Timmons says that while it is a tough game they have enjoyed good results against them before and that the squad are more than ready for them.

Final Score: Beverley Whitestar U16s 3 East Riding Rangers U16s 4
