Acclaimed author Val Wood releases a brand new paperback novel, No Place for a Woman this week and is celebrating with a special book signing in her hometown of Beverley, this Saturday at WH Smith Books.
Val will be appearing at WH Smith Books in Beverley on Saturday 14th January at 11am.
Val says:
“I’m very much looking forward to launching the paperback edition of No Place for a Woman. The book was very well received upon its initial hardback release last year so I’m very excited about it becoming available to a new audience.” The book tells the story of Lucy, a young girl whose parents are killed in a train crash, her kindly uncle steps in to look after her – to the initial apprehension of his wife and her son.
However, Lucy’s sweet, spirited charm slowly wins over her new family, and as she overcomes the trauma of her childhood, she grows up inspired to become a doctor, just like her father.
But studying medicine in London takes Lucy far from her home in Hull and the people she loves, and she has to battle to be accepted in a man’s world.
With the dark clouds of the First World War gathering on the horizon, an even greater challenge approaches when Lucy finds herself on the front line of battle.
The best-selling author has released over twenty novels all set in Hull and the East Riding and has a huge readership spanning locally and internationally. No Place for a Woman is a complete change for Val as it is a break from the 19th century time period of her other novels.
