This Friday will present the Save Our MIU petition, signed by 8,267 people, to East Riding Clinical Commissioning Group at its headquarters in Willerby.

Graham will be joined by East Riding Council Leader Councillor Steve Parnaby and fellow ERYC Councillors, Marian Mead (Chairman, and District Health Forum) and June Barton (Chairman, Hospital League of Friends). The two hospital campaign groups played an invaluable role in obtaining signatures.

The petition sets out public opposition to the CCG’s plans to close the Minor Injuries Units in Withernsea and Hornsea in Graham’s Beverley and Holderness constituency.

Earlier this week Holderness GPs called for the ongoing public consultation to be halted in light of their concerns about the impact on their patients. Graham has also called for it to be withdrawn and relaunched with leading questions removed and options for people to express their view on all the changes being proposed – at present the questions do not allow people to express their opposition to the proposed MIU closures.

Graham said;

“I want to thank everyone who signed the Save Our MIU petition and in particular those people who worked so hard to raise signatures. The sheer size of the petition underlines that local people don’t believe closing Minor Injuries Units will lead to better urgent care in our area – and local GPs agree.

“When we present the petition to the Chief Executive of East Riding CCG on Friday I will be urging her to stop these unpopular plans in their tracks, sit down with local GPs and come back with proposals that can command public support and maintain urgent care facilities in these communities. This would be the right and dignified thing to do and I hope she will recognise this.”
