Funding To Explore Beverley Road Improvements Welcomed By MP

Beverley and Holderness MP Graham Stuart has welcomed news that up to £92,000 funding will be provided by the Government for more work to be done developing the business plan submitted by East Riding Council for proposed road improvement works at the Jocks Lodge junction.

Jocks Lodge forms the junction between the A164 and the A1079 to the south of Beverley.

Graham, who supported the Council’s application for funding, said;

“I’m delighted to hear the news that extra funding has been provided to make the case for this valuable scheme in more detail.”

“Jocks Lodge causes misery for people travelling around Beverley every day and it would be great if we can secure the go-ahead for improvement works.”

“This brings us a step closer and is further evidence of the Government’s commitment to investing in infrastructure to keep the country moving.”

These roads are two of the busiest in the area and both carry high volumes of fast flowing traffic travelling to locations across the East Riding and beyond.

The junction currently experiences significant queues and congestion, particularly at peak times, and forms a bottleneck on the East Riding’s highway network.

Councillor David Elvidge, representing Minster and Woodmansey ward, welcomed the news saying;

“This is a fantastic opportunity to improve the congestion in the area and improve the roads.”

“I applaud the government’s effort in trying to bring more investment to the north and this scheme would be beneficial to Beverley and boost economic growth as well as unlocking housing potential.”

The new funding will go towards giving a clear picture of costs and benefits before a decision is taken on whether construction can go ahead.

In the Autumn Statement, the Chancellor announced an extra £1.3bn funding to improve Britain’s roads. The funding is part of a wider package of pledges for infrastructure projects.
