MP Urges Residents To Have Their Say On Closure Threat To Beverley MIU

MP Urges Residents To Have Their Say On Closure Threat To Beverley M IU

Graham Stuart is encouraging residents of and the surrounding villages to attend the public consultation event being held by East Riding Clinical Commissioning Group this Saturday.

Taking place at the between 12.30pm-3.30pm residents will be able to quiz a spokesman for local health bosses on their plans to reshape urgent care in the East Riding.

One of the options under review is to close the Minor Injuries Unit (MIU) in Beverley, which combined with the proposed closure of the MIUs in Hornsea and Withernsea would mean the only urgent care centres left in the area would be in , Goole, Bransholme and Hull.

Mr. Stuart has voiced his concerns saying it would be “dangerous” and would leave many of his constituents without proper access to urgent care treatment.

Mr. Stuart said;

“This weekend Beverley residents have the chance to tell East Riding CCG that they need to go back to the drawing board when it comes to their dangerous plans for urgent care.”

“It would be a disaster if Beverley was to lose its Minor Injuries Unit, leaving over 30,000 people in the town and residents of all the outlying areas facing a 25 mile round trip to Hull whenever they needed urgent treatment.”

“These plans simply haven’t been thought through properly and I really hope as many people as possible will show up at the event at the Parish Hall at Beverley Minster on Saturday afternoon.”

“Earlier this week 235 people went to the equivalent event in Bridlington to make the case for their MIU and it’s important that people in Beverley make it very clear that they are opposed to any plans that would strip of its urgent care facilities.”
