Centre Manager, Helena Moss speaking about the new venue in Beverley said;
“We had two sites in Beverley, one in the town centre and here we had one classroom. Now we have taken over the whole building with the exception of the gym where the boxing club is based.”
“Here we have three classrooms and are open six days a week giving us the opportunity to offer three times as many courses.”
“We provide basic functional skills classes, English Maths ICT and then we do Supporting Learning in Schools Courses, Counselling, Mindfulness along with a range of vocational courses such as dress making and flower arranging that can be accessed by anyone in the community.”
“Most of the learners that come to us are trying to catch up on qualifications they have not got, such as a basic level 1 or 2 in English and Maths.”
“Our aim is that we start people on that progression ladder and hopefully then move them on to either a college of further education, such as East Riding College or Hull College or we help them get into work.”
Opened by the Councillor John Dennis, chairman of East Riding of Yorkshire Council the new Adult Learning Centre is located in the home of the former Youth Club at Burden Road on the Swinemoor Estate.
