New Adult Learning Centre Opens In Beverley at Burden Road

A new Adult Learning Centre in will enable local services to provide three times as many courses following their relocation to .

Services to be offered from the site will include for over 19 and also craft based activities that will be made available to whole community.

Centre Manager, Helena Moss speaking about the new venue in said;

“We had two sites in , one in the town centre and here we had one classroom. Now we have taken over the whole building with the exception of the gym where the boxing club is based.”

“Here we have three classrooms and are open six days a week giving us the opportunity to offer three times as many courses.”

“We provide basic functional skills classes, English Maths ICT and then we do Supporting Learning in Schools Courses, Counselling, Mindfulness along with a range of vocational courses such as dress making and flower arranging that can be accessed by anyone in the community.”

“Most of the learners that come to us are trying to catch up on qualifications they have not got, such as a basic level 1 or 2 in English and Maths.”

“As we are more informal than a college of further and smaller it gives the opportunity to have an introduction back into learning without it being a scary experience.”

“Our aim is that we start on that progression ladder and hopefully then move them on to either a college of further , such as or Hull College or we help them get into work.”

Opened by the Councillor John Dennis, chairman of the new Adult Learning Centre is located in the home of the former Youth Club at on the Swinemoor Estate.
