Beverley Town Pegged Back By Late Hedon Goal

Beverley Town Pegged Back By Late Hedon Goal

Beverley Town Football Club we denied all three points in the Humber Premier League as they were pegged back in the closing stages by Hedon Rangers.

Town travelled to South Holderness school in positive mood and got off a dream start but it was Rangers who ended up the happier of the two teams.

Speaking after the match, Town’s manager Rich Jagger said;

“The lads performed well, and with the late equaliser it feels like a defeat rather than a draw.”

“In the first half we could have been 4-1 up, and second half I thought as a team we defended really well.”

“Unfortunately we got caught out by one ball late on, but there are plenty of positives to take from the performance and the lads can’t wait for the next game on Tuesday at home to Pocklington Town.”

It was Town got their new Humber Premier League campaign off to the perfect start when after only 60 seconds latched onto a neat through ball and fired into the bottom left hand corner to make.

Town, playing with the wind continued to dominate, with Kegan Rose hitting the bar and post with excellent long range strikes, and Littlefield creating another good chance that this time sailed agonisingly wide.

However on 23 minutes along ball from a set piece wasn’t dealt with and the Hedon Ben Swatman bundled the ball over the line for the equaliser.

Straight from the kick off Town went forward, and fired in an immediate response, with Ben Thompson making it 1-2 on 24 minutes.

Town continued to look for that killer third goal, but Hedon hung on and we’re happy for the half time whistle to come.

Hedon had the advantage of the strong wind in the second half, and tried to get the ball forward quickly to the front players with a long ball from back to front.

Beverley Town’s defence coped well with everything that was thrown at them, well marshalled by Ryan Saltmer at the back.

Town were happy to defend and seemed to be managing the game well. Adam Gibson showed great willingness wide left to get the ball down and play, the same with Stuart Oliver on the right, both players putting in a great shift.

On 82 minutes another long ball was sent forward by the Hedon defence, which Town didn’t deal with, and Hedon’s Swatman brushed past the defender and fired into the bottom corner grabbing his second while levelling the match.

Final Score: Hedon Rangers 2 Beverley Town Football Club 2
