Battle Of The Somme Family Day At Beverley Treasure House

To commemorate the centenary of the Battle of the Somme during the , the in is hosting a day of activities for families this Saturday (30 July).

Visitors will be able to find out about the battle and the experiences of those who fought.

Well-known First World War historian Andy Robertshaw will bring the battle to life for visitors through a number of short interactive talks throughout the day aimed at children.

He will show children uniforms and equipment used by soldiers to explain what life was like on the Somme.

Visitors will also be able to look at the exhibition ‘Remembering the Somme’ and handle First World War artefacts and replicas from the museum handling collection. Museum staff will be on hand to answer their questions.

Children will be able to enjoy craft activities such as making cardboard gas masks and soldier stick puppets, as well as trying on child-sized replica soldiers’ uniforms.

The event takes place on Saturday 30 July from 10am to 3pm. Visitors can drop in during this free event on the first floor of the Treasure House, Champney Road, Beverley.
