As the test match series gets underway cricket fans who attend day services across the East Riding have held their very own tournament.

Priory View Day Centre, in have hosted their annual cricket tournament with teams from Driffield, Haltemprice, and Pocklington all competing.

Councillor Richard Harrap, council portfolio for adult and carer services, said: “The annual cricket tournament hosted by Priory View day centre is always such a well supported and well attended event which I know is enjoyed by all involved.

“With the cricket season now in full swing what better time to showcase the sporting talent that we have in East Riding’s Day Services.

“Congratulations to all involved in what was yet another successful tournament.”

The competition, which has become a firm favourite on the day services’ sporting calendar, was played in two leagues, with the winner of league one, Priory View Team Two, taking on the winner of league two, Waterview Lodge, Driffield.

The final saw Priory View set a target of 45 runs for Waterview Lodge; a target which they met with just one bowl to go, making for a close ending to what was a hugely competitive tournament.

Priory View team leader John Fortnum, said: “We were blessed with a lovely sunny day for the cricket tournament and there was plenty of enthusiasm shown from all the teams taking part.

“There really was a great competitive yet sporting atmosphere and a great day was had by all.”
The prize for ‘personality of the tournament’ went to Melissa Hamilton, of Driffield for the way in which she cheered, coached, offered advice and played with such enthusiasm.

The title of ‘best batsman’ was awarded to Richard Bielby, of Haltemprice, who knocked up lots of runs, hitting sixes off most bowlers.

‘Best Bowler’ was awarded to Ethan Dickinson, of Driffield who was an easy choice in this category thanks to his consistently good bowling.
