Council House Re-Roofing Programme Well Under Way

East Riding of Yorkshire Council – and contractors Geo. Houltons Ltd. – are midway through a £2.5 million contract to re-roof hundreds of houses owned by the council.

Around 270 dwellings will see the improvements in various areas, including , and Withernsea.

As well as the renewal of the roof coverings, the work also includes the renewal of rainwater protection, fascias and soffits; rebuilding and repointing chimneys; repairing any defective brickwork at high level; and topping up any inadequate roof insulation and checking the cavity wall insulation.

Councillor , portfolio holder for asset management, housing and environment, said :

“I am delighted that the council is able to carry out these works, which should mean that all these properties should be largely maintenance free for at least the next 20 years.”

Council tenant Samantha Coldwell, whose home in Hornsea has been totally re-roofed, said she is delighted with the work saud;

“It looks really lovely from the outside – it looks ten times better.”

The work started in April 2016 and is due to continue until spring, 2017. It is part of a major programme of investment in the council’s housing stock, including external wall insulation, window replacement, and the renewal of gas central heating.
