Building Society Members Help To Celebrate 150 Years Of Serving The Community

It is 150 years since the first opened its doors to help residents own their homes and gain the democratic right to vote. To mark the occasion, almost two hundred members and friends attended a celebratory dinner at Beverley Racecourse.

Speakers included chief executive, and Chairman, Bryan Young who gave a history of building societies and highlighted their importance in supporting local communities.

Beverley Racecourse Named As Four Time Finalists

The raffle during the evening raised over £1,200 for the charity partner, Action Duchenne. Which brings the half year total to almost £12,000. These funds will go direct to the charity which funds research for a cure for this type of muscular dystrophy.

Lesley Wegg, the society’s Head of Operations own son suffers with this life limiting condition.

Other fundraising activity is running throughout the year to maximise the total.
