Beverley U11s Come Out On Top In Competitive Game

Beverley Braves returned to normal fixtures with an end-to-end match against Cottingham Tigers at the weekend.

Straight from the kick off the Braves showed their intent with some powerful drives followed by good handling to stretch the Tigers defence.

It wasn’t long before William Wilson crossed for the Braves with James Marr on target with the conversion. The Braves defended well, but a couple of indiscretions gave the Tigers good field position from which they managed to score from.

From the re-start, a Braves error handed possession to the Tigers but strong Braves tackles resulted in a Tigers error and in the resulting plays Louix Gorman crossed for the Braves second try again converted by James Marr.

Poor defensive line speed from the Braves gave the Tigers good field position and a tactical kick fielded in the in goal area gave the Tigers another set of six tackles on the Braves line. Despite some strong tackles the Tigers crossed again to narrow the Braves lead.

In the closing plays of the first half both teams coughed up the ball but the Braves finished the stronger. A powerful run by William Wilson set up a good passing move finished by Tom Murphy and again converted by James Marr.

The second half started with some strong Tigers runs repelled by the Braves. Eventually, the pressure told and the Tigers scored in the corner despite a valiant effort from Oscar Thomas to keep them out.

The Braves quickly hit back with strong runs from Matty Smith and Daniel Smith setting up good field position. Quick hands from George Youngs and Jude Kilgannon saw Freddie Rodgers cross for his first try for the club.

The Braves continued to apply the pressure and an individual piece of skill from Jacob Parkinson saw him evade numerous tackles to cross to the side of the sticks, again converted by James Marr.

With debutants Tierney Chillcott, and Samuel English all contributing as the game drew to a close, a deft kick to the corner from Louix Gorman saw Oscar Thomas touch down for the final try and a well-earned victory.
