Beverley Soup To Launch This June

A crowd funding project called Beverley Soup is set to be launched in June at St Mary’s Church.

Beverley Soup will give four people the opportunity to pitch an idea to people from the community with a chance of walking away with the funds to make his reality.

How much is in the pot is totally dependent on the number of people who come through the doors are prepared to part with £10 in the knowledge all the money will be used to enhance their community.

Organisers behind the event in Beverley said;

“The format of the night is very simple. Everyone pays a tenner for groups of four minutes each to pitch an idea that will benefit the community.

“Everyone then enjoys home-made soup, and bread has been donated by local businesses and chats about their favourite project for they all vote.

“Whichever project or idea receives the most votes they get to take home the pot of tenners, which will hopefully be in excess of £1000.”

Based on the hugely successful concept that originates in the troubled city of Detroit in America, the people behind Beverley soup hope it will become a permanent fixture like it has in other places in the region, they said;

“It’s spread to York and Hull, so we are bringing it to Beverley. We’ve got local businesses and volunteers to provide soup and bread and assistance.

“It’s completely apolitical, great for the community, and hopefully it will grow into a permanent, and we’ll supported event.”

Detroit has seen a number of innovative projects grow from these very simple gatherings of people.

One such success has seen two men build benches that are placed at bus stops with books stored in them for people to borrow.

Those who have been successful and walked away with the pot say while the money does help winning gives them much more as this is an endorsement from the community that their idea is indeed good one.

Is this publicity endorsement is in some of the ideas which out of the community attract further investment grow into businesses that create employment local.

Beverley Soup will take place on June 9 from 6:30 PM St Mary’s church in Beverley. For the admission price of £10 people receive soup fresh bread entertainment.
