Fresh Apprenticeship Intake With Major Employer

East Riding College and Cranswick Country Foods have teamed up to offer 16 apprenticeships at the company’s Preston factory.

They will run for 12 months each and everyone who successfully completes theirs is guaranteed a full-time job.

The company is looking for butchery apprentices to join its 1,400-strong workforce in producing fresh pork products for major supermarket chains.

It is the fourth intake of apprentices since the launch of the Cranswick apprenticeship scheme, with 21 apprentices having already progressed into a full-time position.

Katie , Human Resources Manager at Cranswick said:

“This is an excellent opportunity to join the team at one of the most successful businesses in the region.

“Our apprenticeship scheme with East Riding College has been very successful in producing highly skilled staff since our partnership began three years ago.

“We are now looking for a fresh intake of apprentices who will receive ongoing training and support as they work towards further butchery qualifications.”

John Doris, Vice Principal, and Resources at the College, said:

“We are very pleased to be working with Cranswick on their latest recruitment drive.

“Apprenticeships are an excellent way of taking on new employees and ensuring they receive the training and support to ensure they develop the right skills for the business.”

Cranswick Country Foods is a FTSE 250 company and one of the UKs largest food producers, supplying pork products to most of the major supermarkets.

The apprenticeship scheme is based at the Preston site in a chilled production environment and is an exciting opportunity to learn the skills of a specialised pork butcher.

During the 12-month apprenticeship, staff will learn knife skills and the craft of butchery, English and mathematics (where appropriate), health and safety, food safety and leadership skills.

Applicants must have good listening skills, be pro-active and keen to learn, and have a positive attitude and desire to achieve.

An open event for who are interested in the vacancies is being held from 3pm to 6pm on June 8 at the College’s Hull site, in St James Street, off English Street near Kingston Retail Park.
