Funding Bid Consultation For Grovehill Bridge Maintenance Support

Money

is seeking the public’s views to support an application it has made for £130,000 of funding from the Humber Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) for a programme of maintenance works at Grovehill Bridge, Beverley.

The bridge is a key transport link between the town centre and the industrial area and provides the only HGV route for larger vehicles travelling to the businesses between Grovehill Bridge and Weel Bridge.

Repair works are now required to ensure the bridge stays in the best possible state long term. Should the bridge start to fail it could see a 7.5 tonne weight limit imposed which would prevent HGV access to over 60 businesses to the east of the bridge.

Councillor Andy Burton, cabinet portfolio holder for planning, highways and transportation, said: “The council is very keen to hear from residents about the proposed works, so that a robust case can be presented to the Humber LEP in order to secure this funding.

“The implications of not carrying out this vital repair work would be significant and could have a disastrous impact on the businesses to the east of the bridge.

“The proposed bridge repair scheme will enhance the local transport network, ensure long-term connectivity to local businesses and secure the economic sustainability of the Grovehill area.”

Subject to funding being finalised, the scheme would start in the summer and take around two months to complete. The bridge will remain open throughout, but signal control may be required to prevent two-way traffic flow while repairs take place.
