Millers Day Centre Host The ‘X-Factor’

It may be several months before television talent show the X-Factor returns to our screens but in the meantime music fans have been treated to a regional rendition of the show thanks to East Riding day services.

Singers who attend day centres across the East Riding have competed in an X-Factor style talent competition hosted by Millers Day Centre, in Beverley.

A total of seven acts took to the stage, including solo and group performances, for what was the 10th anniversary of the competition.

Adam Tuck, who attends Woldhaven Day Centre, in , was declared the winner with his moving rendition of ‘Are We Human’ by the Killers.

Councillor , portfolio holder for adult and carer services, said: “It is fantastic to see that the X-Factor competition is still going strong 10 years after it was first launched by the council’s day services.

“I know a lot of hard work goes into organising what is a thoroughly enjoyable event, so I would like to congratulate all those involved, not least those who took to the stage and put on winning performances.”

The contest was opened by former winner Jonathan Hoe, of and Hornsea Day Services, who sang his rendition Whitney Houston’s ‘I Will Always Love You’ which stole the show last year.

This was shortly followed by an upbeat version of Wilson Pickett’s Mustang Sally sung by Paul Berriman of Priory View Day Centre, , before Jonathan returned to the stage with a moving performance of Celine Dion’s ‘All by Myself’.

Waterview Lodge, in Driffield put forward a group, led by Sally-Ann Frankish, who performed Boyzone’s ‘No Matter What’, and Millers Day Centre’s entrant was Helen Edwards, who sang the infamous ‘Let it Go’ from popular Disney film Frozen in a dazzling Elsa costume.

It was the luck of the Irish for Rodney Sweeting, from Pastures Day Centre, in Goole, who received a resounding applause for his rendition of Danny Boy, performed in Irish themed costume.

The show, which was cheered along by a strong crowd of supporters, was brought to a fitting conclusion with an uplifting rendition of ‘Bring me Sunshine’ by a choir from Haltemprice and Brough Day Services.
