Work Set To Start On New Cycleway Footway Across Beverley Westwood

East Riding of Yorkshire Council will be starting work on the new cycleway and footway across a section of Beverley Westwood on Monday 4 April, 2016.

Work on the 12-week scheme will be carried out in 150-metre sections, controlled by temporary traffic signals. Pedestrians will be escorted through the site by members of the traffic management team. The work will be carried out by the council’s Streetscene team.

The pathway will run along the B1230 from Cartwright Lane to a location near the playground on Broadgate.

Councillor Andy Burton, portfolio holder for planning, highways and transportation said:

“I am delighted that we are now able to start work on this important and useful improvement scheme. I would like to stress that this work will be carried out with due regard to the status and importance of the Westwood, and that the completed scheme will have minimal impact on the area.

“The council is a keen advocate of cycling as both a leisure activity and as a sustainable form of transport. We are continuing to develop the cycling infrastructure of the East Riding with a focus on providing safe routes for cyclists.

“The B1230 is a heavily-used commuter route and the development of an off-road cycle route will ensure the safety of cyclists and in particular children attending the local schools.”

An East Riding of Yorkshire Council spokesperson added: “We apologise to motorists for any inconvenience caused during these works, and ask for their patience during the construction period. We are confident that the end result will offer greatly improved facilities for users of the Westwood.”
