Medal For Excellence Award Win For Bishop Burton Student

Bishop Burton capped off a busy by celebrating a national award win for one of its students.

Grace Harwood, aged 20 from , has been awarded the City and Guilds Medal for Excellence Award for her progress on her higher apprenticeship in agriculture at Broachdale Birds Ltd., after being nominated by the College and her employer for her outstanding dedication to the role.

Bill Meredith, Deputy Principal at , commended Grace on her award win;

“I am delighted to be presenting Grace with this City and Guilds Medal for Excellence. It is one of the highest accolades an apprentice can achieve, with less than 100 awarded each year. Grace is described by her employer and peers as conscientious, hardworking and a great asset to the team; a very worthy recipient of today’s award.”

City & Guilds’ Medals for Excellence, which have been awarded for the last 100 years, recognise the achievements of apprentices, lecturers and trainers who have achieved great results by producing exceptional work – going above and beyond what is expected to achieve their goals. It recognises not only excellent results but also those who show a true journey of progression throughout their qualification.

On the award win, Grace said;

“I can’t believe I’ve been awarded this medal. It’s a great achievement and something I’m so proud of. I really enjoy my apprenticeship at Broachdale Birds as I have been given lots of opportunities by my employer and my assessor to do things a typical apprentice wouldn’t do. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank them for all their help and support over the last three years – I’m over the moon.”

As well as being awarded with a medal, Grace is now also in the running to be awarded the People’s Choice Award at the Lion Awards, City & Guilds’ most prestigious awards ceremony which acknowledges the best of the best, nationally.
