Reunion For First Pupils Of Longcroft Lower School

A reunion is planned for the first pupils to step over the doorstep of Longcroft Lower School in 1958.

This year group will be celebrating the 70th birthdays this year and have organised a gathering, inviting people who still live in Beverley and those that have moved away to get together.

Three of the former pupils are organising the event and endeavour to contact as many of their fellow students as possible by word of mouth, telephone and Facebook. They are also appealing for local people to help out with their search of anyone who may have moved out of the area.

Eileen Archibald (née Haynes), Linda Harrison (née Coates) and Prue Blake (née Massey) say this is a significant year as they are all celebrating being 70 years old and with the future of the Lower School being uncertain due to plans in the future to demolish the building for development.

Mrs Archibald says:
“We have been successful in contacting a considerable number of people already and the school has been helpful giving us a copy of the register of pupils who started with us.”

“The Lower School was newly built, it was state-of-the-art in its time. However, we could not start at the beginning of the school academic year as it wasn’t ready so we all stayed at our primary schools for an extra term with a further delay after the Christmas holidays. I think there was a problem with getting the heating working properly so we all had an extra few days holiday, I don’t remember complaining about that!”

The reunion will take place (at the Lower School) on Sunday, 10 July 2016 from12 midday to 4.00pm.
