Beverley Girl Emma Andrew is a ‘Souper Star’

from Beverley has been named as a winner in New Covent Garden Soup’s search for the nation’s unsung community heroes.

Scooping the award for the Humber Region in the award is in acknowledgement for Emma going above and beyond to help others in her community.

Emma attended a celebratory dinner at exclusive members’ club Home House in Central London where she was presented with her award.

Commenting on her win Emma said;

“I am shocked, surprised and humbled to have won this award, but so grateful.”

Emma’s win follows a bid last Autumn to unearth community ‘Souper Stars’ worthy of recognition, which saw New Covent Garden Soup travel the length and breadth of the UK in a ‘souped up’ wagon encouraging Brits to nominate those making a difference in their community.

As well as seeking out our nation’s stars worthy of celebration, New Covent Garden Soup supported local charities along the way; donating to those who make a difference locally.

The winners across fourteen regions were judged by a panel of independent editorial teams across the UK.

Emma was nominated by her friend Katie; whose mother was diagnosed with a brain tumour earlier this year. As well as acting as an immense emotional support and providing words of understanding and advice at any time they were required; whether day or night, Emma also cooked meals for Kate’s husband and children and helped the family out with housework.

As well as working full-time as a police officer, Emma also volunteers for her local pre-school committee; giving up her own time to raise money to fund new resources for the pupils.

On the nomination, Katie commented;

“Mopping up my tears and there to give me a hug no matter what, without Emma I would have been lost. No one I know is as selfless as her and she truly deserves this prize.”

Jeremy Hudson, New Covent Garden Soup CEO commented;

“The contributions our winners have made to their communities are truly remarkable and each is a true inspiration. Emma’s actions embody the warming sense of selfless community spirit which it is so important to encourage and celebrate.”
