Over Two Hundred People Visit The Flood Advisory Service Roadshow

The , a not for profit organisation established to help communities throughout the UK facing the devastating effects of flooding, arrived in Beverley on Thursday 14th and Friday 15th January at the Tesco Superstore, in Beverley to help local residents.

The roadshow trailer staffed by flood advisors who were on hand to give out free impartial advice on flood mitigation and to inform members of the public who their registered BSI qualified Flood Professionals are locally, were joined by local Mayor of Beverley Cllr and Graham Stuart MP.

Managing Director of the Flood Advisory Service, Sarah Marriott explains.

“Just last month we saw the wettest month ever on record, with many communities throughout Yorkshire and neighbouring counties under 4ft of water. So it’s no wonder flood mitigation has become a hot topic for debate not just here locally but on a national scale.”

“It is the reason we visited Beverley, to help and to give free impartial advice on how to protect homes and businesses. It was so good to see over two hundred visit the trailer over the two days and I’d like to think that each and every one left the trailer feeling more informed on the help that’s available.”

“If you didn’t get a chance to visit the trailer, then please do visit our website for more free information.”

“Remember that given the recent weather warnings and future flood forecasts we believe that over 11,000 homes in this area alone could be at risk.”

“I must thank the Mayor, your MP Graham Stuart, and the Ambulance team that attended on the day to help share our flood mitigation message.”

“Not to mention David Riley the Store Community Champion at Tesco Beverley and his team who kindly allowed free access for the trailer on the stores car park and supported us throughout the day and also all the local residents that visited us. A heartfelt thank you to you all.”

Graham Stuart MP added;

“When you are faced with the devastation, both physical and emotional, that having your home or business flooded inflicts, you need good impartial advice from the professionals and that is what today has been all about here on the Flood Advisory Service’s trailer.”

“The amount of people visiting today has been impressive and it reflects residents’ determination to find out everything they need to know to help themselves minimise flooding in the future.”

“By working together with local support groups, the emergency services, the Flood Advisory Service and of course local and national government departments we can mitigate the effects of flooding.”

The Flood Advisory Service currently has a national roll out for the trailer with full details of locations and dates being available from their website.
