Beverley Westwood Lions Raise Over £200 For Community Projects

Newly formed Beverley Westwood Lions have thanked Tesco and their customers after they raised well over £200 by collecting in their store.

Tesco say they were pleased to welcome the Beverley Westwood Lions’ Santa Sleigh into their store on 21 December.

The event held at Tesco was a great success, with £288 collected on the day, which will help fund projects in the local community.

Built by the Beverley Lions with support from Beverley Town Council and several local businesses, the sleigh has been touring the streets of Beverley throughout December.

It also appeared at the Beverley Lights Switch on and also at the Food and Drink Festival which was held at Beverley Minster.

Beverley Westwood Lions’ Secretary Judy Sagar said;

“Although it rained for much of the day, the smiles on the children’s faces made it all worthwhile and we would like to thank Tesco’s customers for their generosity.”

“The sleigh has proved to be very popular with both young and old and we are hoping to increase the number of outings next Christmas.”

Overall the Beverley Westwood Lions say through the various events that involved the sleigh they raised over £3,000 a figure they are delighted with.

Mrs. Sagar added;

“We are very pleased with how things went and are very grateful to everyone who made a donation, the Sleigh has been a huge success.”

“During the festive period e took the Sleigh to some care homes in Beverley and as a result of these visits we are looking to go back and visit residents in Easter armed with eggs.”

The Beverley Westwood Lions group was founded last April and would be delighted to hear from prospective new members who are interested in joining this family orientated club.
