Christmas Lights Turned on in Cherry Burton

Christmas Lights Turned on in Cherry Burton

Cherry Burton village pond was illuminated this Saturday at the annual Christmas lights switch-on.

People flocked to this event -which has been running for over 20 years – from Cherry Burton village and beyond, and were treated to Christmas stalls, a tombola, the Christmas lights, and the arrival of Father Christmas and his sleigh.

Event organiser Steve Peirson was delighted with the turn-out on Saturday he said;

“A small group of volunteers put so much time and hard work into setting up the lights and organising the switch-on event. The reward is seeing so many residents come along for the ceremony and enjoying themselves, and enjoying the lights over Christmas.”

Local community groups were the main stallholders with Cherry Burton Pre-school, , the local scouts group and the local Fairtrade group all manning stalls.

The volunteers also organised a tombola, which raises money for new lights, as well as covering the costs of the event.

Stallholder and Pre-school mum, Andrea Simpson, was busy on the Pre-school stall selling hot dogs and hot soup. She was full of praise for this community event, which raises vital funds for the Pre-school each year. She commented:

“I love this event – it is wonderful to see so many people from the village turn out to see the lights.”

“It is a great occasion for children to enjoy too with Father Christmas arriving on his sleigh. It is also a brilliant way for local organisations to raise money. Many thanks to Steve and the helpers for all their hard work.”
