Beverley Set To Benefit From New Rail Franchises

Beverley Set To Benefit From New Rail FranchisesBeverley is one of many towns across the East Riding that is set to benefit as a result of the new rail franchises that are due to start April 2016.

Over the course of their franchise period, operators First TransPennine Express and Arriva Rail North will invest heavily in the local rail infrastructure.

Within the projects that they will undertake, it includes one that will see Beverley, and Hull linked to Leeds with a new direct service.

There will be further improvements here in Beverley, the number of parking spaces that are currently available at is set to be increased.

Local MP Graham Stuart welcomed the news, in a statement released he said;

“The vision of the Northern Powerhouse came a step closer to reality today as we learned how our vital transport connections will develop over the next decade.”

“I know rail passengers across the East Riding will be delighted to hear our area will be better linked to cities across the North and this can only help local businesses continue the strong growth we have enjoyed in recent years.”

The MP for Beverley and Holderness pointed out that this was only made possible by attracting private investment, he said;

“For too long, people in East Yorkshire have been the poor relations when it comes to transport investment.”

“These new franchises show this is changing – and why it is so important that we can attract massive private investment in our railways rather than flirting with the discredited politics of nationalisation as Jeremy Corbyn’s Labour Party wants to do.”

News of these improvements for Beverley comes just days after operator, announced they will be extending their service between Beverley and London to include weekends.

They say the extension of the service between Beverley and London is in response to passenger demands following the introduction of the daytime service.
