This Girl Can In The East Riding

East Riding Leisure has launched its own localised version of the Sport England ‘This Girl Can’ campaign.

The new web pages show the wide range of sports and activities available across the East Riding, and are aimed at encouraging more women to take part in them.

Councillor Richard Burton, portfolio holder for civic wellbeing and culture, said:

“Research by Sport England shows a huge difference between the numbers of men and women playing sport. The research shows that females want to get active, but are afraid to exercise because they fear being judged.”

“The national campaign by Sport England uses images of women who are the complete opposite of the idealised and stylised images that we usually see.”

“I hope very much that lots more women in the East Riding will be encouraged by these new web pages to try new forms of exercise and so have their self- confidence boosted, and their overall mental and physical health improved.”

East Riding Leisure has 11 Leisure Centres across the area, offering a wide range of indoor and outdoor facilities, on hand for men and women of all ages, shapes, sizes and ability, with a range of membership packages available, as well as Tone Zone fitness centres.
