Beverley Camera Centre : 35 Years And Counting

is celebrating 35 years of trading in this month, an achievement many will struggle to beat as life becomes tougher for retailers on Britain’s High Street’s.

A local man Mr. Stebbens is well-known not only for his business, , but also his hands-on involvement with the highly vibrant Beverley Circuit.

Speaking to HU17.net Mr. Stebbens said;

“I originally opened my business back in November 1980, and it was located on Saturday Market. The best part of 10 years I shared a shop before finally moving here to my current location at Swabys Yard.”

“Back then when I first started trading I was part of a procurement franchise which allowed me to acquire photographic equipment a discounted rate allowing me to make a profit on my sales.”

“In the years I have been open cameras have evolved a lot, and of course my businesses has with it. All those years ago people used to buy film cameras now everything is digital.”

While he is known locally for his specialist knowledge and superb range of photographic equipment Mr. Stebbens also has great expertise in regard to binoculars and telescopes.

Indeed before moving into the retail business and opening a shop in Beverley Mr. Stebbens used to run a highly successful mail order binoculars business.

He said;

“My passion is for optics. In store within my range I have over 150 pairs of binoculars that are ideal for hobbies like bird watching, motor sport and stargazing.”

Another market that The Beverley Camera Centre has expanded into is the action camera market offering a good selection of cameras people can attach to themselves or other devices like motorcycles, so they can record their adventures.

Just looking around the shop it is easy to see why Mr. Stebbens has lasted so long in the town centre.
As he prepares for what he hopes will be a busy Christmas, looking at some of his gift ideas and fantastic deals he has on telescopes there certainly is something in store to suit all budgets.

Mr. Stebbens says customers are always welcome to come and see him and look through the hundreds of items he said;

“People are very welcome to come into my shop and browse my goods. Right now, I have got some great deals or professional cameras and some nice high end lenses that would make perfect gifts.”

Mr. Stebbens says he has no plans to go anywhere else forward to many more years running his business in the town where he was born and bred, he said;

“I really enjoy trading in Beverley, is a beautiful place to live and work in the hope am here for another 35 years.”

The Beverley Camera Centre is located at Swabys Yard and is open every day except Sundays and Thursdays.

  1. Yes, there are not many independent camera shops left, where you can get advice from someone who is knowledgeable and who can give the customer sound advice. I have been dealing with Phil for a lot of years and he will always give you a good deal.
