New Walking Football Sessions in Beverley

If you want to start playing football or make a return to the beautiful game but are worried that your age or fitness may be an obstacle then the may have the answer.

From Monday 2 November the council’s Sport, Play and Arts service will be offering new indoor walking football sessions in .

The sessions will take place in the indoor sports hall at East Riding Leisure Beverley every Monday from 1-2pm following the success of other sessions in the East Riding.

Walking football is designed for the over 50s and aims to provide fun, sociable football games and skills as a way of improving the fitness of those who may have previously played and would like the chance to kick a ball again or those who want to try a new sport.

Councillor , chairman of the East Riding Health and Wellbeing Board said: “The Sport, Play and Arts Service provide a huge range of activities and sports to the local community with the aim of helping people not only improve their fitness but also to boost their mental wellbeing by getting out there and meeting new people in a friendly and sociable environment.

“Sports like walking football really are a fantastic way of giving older residents of all abilities the opportunity to try something new or to simply get back to kicking a football.

“These sessions have so far proved really popular elsewhere in the East Riding, with players really reaping the health and wellbeing benefits of getting involved in what is an innovative and unique sport.”

The sessions will be led by Adam Gibson, of the Sport, Play and Arts Service who added: “We will provide casual organised walking football games and accommodate various fitness levels, providing low to mid intensity matches ideal for those who haven’t played for a long time or would just like to get fitter and meet new people.

No matter what skill or fitness level you are we would strongly recommend you give Walking Football a try.”
