Beverley To Play More Prominent Role in 2016 Tour De Yorkshire

Welcome to Yorkshire and the ASO have today announced that will play a bigger part in 2016 .

Organisers have confirmed Beverley will either be allocated as a starting point or finishing point for one of the stage of the race.

Councillor Stephen Parnaby OBE, leader of , said:

“The council is delighted that Beverley will host a stage start/finish of the 2016 Tour de Yorkshire.”
“Today’s announcement by race organisers Welcome to Yorkshire and the Amaury Sport Organisation is great news.”

“It will create further opportunities to boost the local economy and promote our area as a must-visit tourist destination, both nationally and internationally.”

“Last year’s inaugural event was very well-received by communities right across the East Riding, with thousands lining the route to cheer on some of the sport’s top cyclists.”

“Work can now begin on planning for next year’s event, with details of the route to be confirmed in December.”

Last May people filled the town centre and lined to street to watch as the riders past through the historic streets of Beverley.

Many of the traders and residents got into the spirit of the event by decorating the route with blue and yellow bikes while schools created special decorations for the event.

With the popularity of cycling growing in the UK, the news Beverley will have a more prominent role in the 2016 event is great news for the town, adding another top event to the towns diary.
