Brian Cathcart Meets His Waterloo In Beverley

Media campaigner, journalist and author Brian Cathcart will be in Beverley on Sunday (5 October) as part of the to deliver ‘The News from Waterloo’.

His latest book, published earlier this year, is the extraordinary and gripping tale of how Britain learned of Wellington’s victory in 1815. It’s the story of feverish journeys by coach and horseback, a desperate Channel crossing, and a final dash from the Kent coast to London, in the days long before the mass media of today.

Brian Cathcart is professor of journalism at Kingston University in London. Is the award winning author of ‘The case of Stephen Lawrence’ and a founder of ‘Hacked off’, which campaigns for a free and accountable press. He has been deputy editor of the ‘Independent on Sunday’ and assistant editor of the ‘New Statesman’.
