UK Set Six Weeks Of Sporting Fun With Rugby World Cup

Longcroft School Choir Will Welcome Rugby World Cup 2015

One of the biggest sporting occasions gets underway today as the Rugby World Cup comes to the UK with England kicking off the tournament against Fiji at Twickenham.

Local pubs and are gearing themselves up for what they are hoping with be a successful time for the national side.

Beverley has already enjoyed some great press around the world thanks to Longcroft School whose Gospel Choir sung for the squad last week.

It is not just the pubs and bars that are expecting a boost to their takings, have released figures which predict that during the six weeks will consume;

  • 150 Million cans of beer and cider
  • 80 Million packets of crisps, nuts and snacks
  • 9 Million Pizzas
  • 3.5 million Curries
  • 3 Million Pies
  • 5 Million dips

To handle demand the store have created special dedicated sections in their stores packed with offers and special clothing to mark what promises to be a fantastic sporting occasion.

Natasha Pitman from Tesco said;

“We know from previous tournaments that on days when home nations play demand for beer, pizzas, and other snacks rockets and continues to rise with each successive round.

“Foodwise, pizzas, curries and other ready meals will be in high demand during the tournament as rugby fans concentrate on watching the game.”

It is not just retail that is set for a boost, will figures will also rocket with an estimated 460,000 predicted to visit the UK during the tournament.
