Better Breakfast Month – Library Storytime Sessions

Wizarding Fun At Beverley Library

As a celebration of ‘Better Breakfast Month’ this September, East Riding Libraries have teamed up with East Riding Children’s Centres to host a series of breakfast themed storytime sessions, with the aim of raising awareness of the importance of a healthy breakfast, and the range of supporting resources available from libraries.

With the health spotlight currently on sugar consumption and childhood obesity, breakfast is a meal which is often overlooked.

“In studies amongst children, breakfast can improve attainment, behaviour and has been linked to improved grades” http://www.shakeupyourwakeup.com/content/why-breakfast-important-1)

A healthy meal to start the day can dramaticly improve concentration and decrease stress levels, which are also proven benefits of reading.

For those looking for breakfast inspiration, East Riding Libraries have a huge range of recipe and nutrition books available to reserve via the online catalogue, and these can be collected from any branch or mobile Library.

Also popular cookery magazines, including BBC Good Food and BBC Easycook, are available to download to tablets or smart phones for FREE using the East Riding Library card.

The Storytime sessions will include a fun breakfast themed story, plus health related information, recipe suggestions and ideas provided by the Children’s Centres. Sessions will take place on the following dates:

– Tuesday 8th September, 2.30-3pm
Bridlington Library – Wednesday 16th Sept, 2.15-2.45pm
Library at the Withernsea Centre – Tuesday 22nd September, 2.30pm-3pm
Goole Library – Wednesday 30th September, 2.30pm-3pm

For further information on the storytime sessions, contact either of the four libraries.
