Jagger ‘Pleased’ With Team As Town Beat Bridlington

A mixed team made up of players from Beverley Town Football Club’s Academy and Reserve squad travelled to Burton Agnes to face East Riding County Premier side Bridlington Albion.

On a hot summers day the big pitch would provide a good workout for Towns young side.

Town started brightly, moving the ball well and working hard to get the ball back when possession had been lost.

After a number of early chances, Olly Baldwin switched from the wing to a more advanced position up front, and quickly to advantage with two well taken goals.

Albion tried hard to get back into the game but Towns defence, well marshalled by Conor Garwood, held strong to go into half time with a 2-0 lead.

The second half started in the same way, with Town in control, and playing some nice football out of defence. With legs tiring a change in formation was made to try and conserve energy, however this seemed to disrupt the balance of the team, and Albion hit back with 2 quick goals to level the game at 2-2.

Albion started to take control of the game at this point, and Towns confidence seemed to wain a little against an older, physical team. The change back to a 4-4-2 was made and this seemed to give the team more confidence, and in no time they regained the lead.

Ryan Overington finished off a nice move with a sublime chip over the on rushing keeper, showing quality and composure beyond his years. Town now had the upper hand, Olly Baldwin completed his hat tick from the penalty spot and Jordan Easter grabbed a late goal to make the final score 5-2.

Towns new Academy management duo of Rich Jagger and Pete Walker were pleased with the first run out of the season, commenting on the game Jagger said;

“The lads did really well in testing conditions. Conor Garwood was excellent at centre half against a striker that scored 50 goals last season, Eric Gardham never stopped running and had an excellent debut.”

“To be fair everyone did really well and the signs are positive for the season ahead. We will continue with training Tuesday, 6.30pm at .”

Beverley Town Reserves face Hedon away in a friendly on Thursday and will play Molescroft Rangers at Leconfield next Saturday as both sides continue their build up to the 2015-2016 season.

Final Score : Bridlington Albion 2 Beverley Town FC 5
