Residents are reminded that will provide the majestic setting for the annual Carers Celebration Service this Wednesday (1 July).

The guest speaker for this year’s service will be dementia awareness campaigner Tommy Whitelaw.

Following a successful career in the music industry, running global merchandising operations for the Spice Girls, Kylie Minogue and U2, Tommy spent five years as a full-time carer for his late mother Joan who had vascular dementia.

All carers, past and present, are most welcome to attend the service together with the person/s they care for, friends, neighbours or relatives.

The service, which has been arranged by the East Riding and the East Riding Carers Support Service, will start at 1pm after the arrival of the civic party. It is requested that everyone is seated before 12.50pm.

The Reverend will lead everyone in hymns, readings and prayers.

At the end of the service there will be an opportunity to light a candle for a loved one.

Councillor Richard Harrap, said;

“The Carers Celebration Service is always a joyful and uplifting event celebrating the invaluable contribution that carers make to the local community.

“I would encourage as many people as possible, whether they are caring for someone or have previously cared for a loved one, to join in with what promises to be a great event.”

Refreshments will be served after the service at the rear of the Minister giving an opportunity for carers to meet and share friendships.

There is good wheelchair access in and around Beverley Minster. Car parking for Blue Badge holders is in the Minster car park.
